• Improved environmental standards and enforced contractor accountability by developing web-based applications for state and federally-funded weatherization improvements for low-income homeowners.
• Performed project requirements gathering, communicated with non-technical domain experts, software development, database development, wrote software documentation, wrote project documentation, developed presentations, wrote training documentation, and performed training.

• Increasing uptime by debugging complex, undocumented code and patching subtle security holes, e.g., repaired a site from malicious hack and implemented stronger security protocols.

• Protected customer by improving existing product service agreement -- added required text for a complex, FDA-approved medical device used to identify balance disorders in hard-to-diagnose patients. (I originally developed device software.)
• Researched legal terminology used for FDA, HIPAA, software privacy, warranty, liability, technical support, and service agreements to find appropriate vernacular for customizing wording to company's device.
• Translated jargon used by company technical personnel into concise and understandable English while at the same time maintaining legal verbiage requirements for medical devices.
• Shared my experience with Microsoft technical support by writing a detailed how-to guide for company personnel to obtain assistance for their software development efforts.

• Enhanced public safety by assisting law enforcement agencies in upgrading from old-style, legacy database applications to modern, relational technologies (e.g., supporting 911 calls, offenses, arrests, evidence, incidents, etc.). See here.
• Extracted data from legacy systems, generally requiring manual reverse-engineering.
• Designed and implemented DTS packages and/or custom software to convert legacy data into MS SQL Server and other relational database formats.
• Maintained, optimized, and administered MS SQL Server, and several other database servers.
• Served as customer liaison and learned law enforcement methods and terminology.

• Achieved cost and time savings by automating complex business processes, for example, accounting, sales, scheduling, commissions, and training.
• Created e-commerce, B2B web and desktop applications used to promote retail auto sales (see here and here).
• Integrated web and desktop applications; integrated desktop with third-party payment processor.

• Selected, interviewed, and vetted software development candidates, and made hiring recommendations to management.

• Helped patients find cure for balance disorders by developing a complex, software-driven diagnostic device, which tracks, analyzes, and displays eye movements via a set of infrared-illuminated goggles.
• Sped time to market by writing device documentation which received FDA approval faster than normal (see FDA 510(k) Premarket Notification; the full document must be requested from FPT).
• Researched FDA device approval process; ensured compliance with infrared safety requirements; converted complex pattern recognition algorithms into object-oriented code; wrote low-level hardware interfaces; and, implemented advanced user interface
• Tools Used: C# & C++ .NET, XML, MS Access, ADO .NET, Rational Rose (UML), ZedGraph, Visual Studio Installer (.MSI), Crystal Reports, DirectX 9.0, MS Project, and ODBC.

• Eliminated manual steps and potential auditing errors by integrating a proprietary point-of-sales system with QuickBooks accounting software (see here). Sales, receivables, etc. are now synchronized.
• Drove increased sales and business visibility by creating websites for customers like The Dayton Landing and Dayton Massage Therapy.
• Increased real estate corporation's efficiency by automating an apartment lease process. Software now installed at eight corporate offices.
• Rescued a newspaper from down-time by repairing its publishing database (see here).
• Helped non-technical people understand and use software; administered websites and databases; created easy-to-use, standardized install package for corporate IT department.

• Enhanced public safety by leading and participating in the design and development of law enforcement software products -- for police and fire departments and 911 call centers (see here).
• Developed an advanced radio network gateway which allowed replacement of aging Motorola police and fire mobile units, while preserving large investment in server backend (mid-frame). Laptop-based, state-of-the-art, GUI front-end software ran side-by-side with legacy mobile units, as the new gateway converted network messages from laptop software format into legacy server backend format.
• Mentored junior developers in new technologies and software development methodologies (OOP); converted complex specifications into small, understandable pieces for development team members.
• Quoted, managed, and billed projects that generated several hundred thousand dollars in revenues.
• Selected, interviewed, and vetted software development candidates, and made hiring recommendations to management.

• Improved an on-line version of an automobile dealership automation product, moving from a text- and mainframe-based solution to a turnkey MS Internet Explorer/SQL Server client/server solution.

• Helped lead the company to grow revenues and add employees at an annual rate of 90% per year (to $1 million).
• Built the company's software development and project management infrastructure.
• Oversaw 3 project managers and 10 developers; used "global" project schedule, a roll-up of individual schedules; determined project requirements; and assigned tools and resources.
• Led and participated in the design and development of custom software applications (e.g., Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, chosen as one of "Florida's Best").
• Mentored junior developers and project managers, and stepped in to solve difficult programming challenges and strained client relationships.

• Expanded into a new market by modifying extremely complex existing software, enabling the printing of protective security cover around rolls of lottery tickets.
• Delivered the project a week ahead of schedule; no bugs reported by customer in the twelve years since the new code was installed.

• Empowered the citizens of Florida by leading several projects that placed state legislative information on the Web (see here), making Florida one of the first states to go on-line.
• Published an article in the magazine Internet World based on this work. My work was featured on the front-page of Florida's Tallahassee Democrat newspaper.
• Integrated a Windows client with a mainframe backend by creating an innovative network gateway which converted Novell IPX messages into IBM SNA messages and vice versa. Product enabled legislators to draft legislation using WordPerfect.
• Served as project manager, software and database architect and developer, systems administrator, and liaison to legislators.

• Defended the nation by assisting the Air Force advance its research in network analysis and optimization.
